Jambo Everyone!  Today we celebrate the 15th anniversary of Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park!  Disney has lots of fun in store for today’s “Party for the Planet”  including special guest speakers when the park opens, commemorative anniversary merchandise, special maps and postcards, and visits with characters like Lilo & Stitch, Flik and Princess Atta, and Thumper and Miss Bunny.  Guest speakers opened the park today at a special ceremony at the Tree of Life and included: Josh D’Amaro, Vice President {Read More}

No Disneynature Film for 2013?

Every spring since 2009, Disneynature, a division of Walt Disney Studios, has released a nature documentary to celebrate Earth Day.  With films such as ‘Earth’ (2009), ‘Oceans’ (2010), ‘African Cats’ (2011) and ‘Chimpanzee’ (2012), Disneynature combines spectacular footage  and documentary filmmaking with a philanthropic twist by donating a portion of each films’ opening week ticket sales to a relevant charity. Fans of the division’s previous films waiting to hear about this year’s release learned that Earth Day 2013 would not {Read More}

The Dapper Dans

Our family loves everything that has to do with music.  My husband is a professional piano player and band teacher.  The girls play violin, piano and cello and participate in a kids’ musical theater troupe.  We play “Name that Tune” around the dinner table at night and most of the songs we choose are from old musicals.  And you can add to that list that we all LOVE barbershop. A colleague of my husband’s is a member of the Westchester {Read More}

Miyuki the Candy Artist

Time spent touring the World Showcase pavilions at Epcot is one of my absolutely favorite things to do while at Disney World.  Each pavilion is home to delicious food, a beautiful atmosphere, fanciful shopping, talented performers, and exciting shows.  With 11 “countries” to visit, you are sure to discover something new on every Disney vacation!  One of the best resources for Disney entertainment schedules is Steve Soares’ fantastic website Walt Disney World Entertainment which he updates weekly.  Today, let’s check {Read More}

The Magic of DIS-igning!

  You may have noticed that in several of the family photos I have on this site my kids are in some sort of matching, Disney-themed attire.  I must admit, I’m a total corn-dog when it comes to our Disney trips.  It was while planning our first trip that I discovered Creative DISigns on the Disboards, one of the most active Disney trip planning forums on the web.  The folks on the Creative DISigns board are there to help you add all {Read More}

Resort Spotlight: Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

The term “glamping” (coined several years ago by MaryJane Butters) combines two words that are often considered to be opposites–glamorous and camping.  In recent years, “glamping” has become incredibly trendy as establishments touting “luxury camping” have cropped up all over the place.  In the tradition of innovation that was the true spirit of Walt Disney himself, the Walt Disney World Resort has been onto the concept of “glamping” for quite some time–far longer, in fact, than it has been popular {Read More}

I’m Only a Morning Person at Disney World

I truly hate getting up in the morning.  It’s painful and miserable and sometimes cold and sometimes dark and always dreadful.  I am the queen of the snooze button. I am a night person, frequently getting a second wind around 9 o’clock and then working until 11 or 12.  But even when I get myself to bed at a decent hour I still hate getting up in the morning.  I seriously feel like I’m going to die.  My family calls {Read More}

Parents’ Night Out?

  Dinner at the California Grill? A Couples’ Massage at the Grand Floridian Resort Spa? Cocktails and relaxation by the pool? An evening of music and dancing at the Boardwalk’s Atlantic Dance Hall? Although a visit to the Walt Disney World Resort is often a whole-family affair, there are plenty of opportunities for adults to relax and reconnect during a Disney vacation. But how can parents take advantage of all those grown-ups only offerings with the kids in tow? Disney’s {Read More}

‘Tween & Teen Boys in Disney World–No Princesses Allowed!

  Fairy tales, castles and princesses. Pixie dust, magic wands and snuggles with Winnie the Pooh. These are often the images that come to mind when one thinks about visiting the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. But what many people do not realize is that beyond the world of tulle and tiaras lies Disney World’s alter-ego—the world of lightning fast race cars, roller coasters that send you flying down an 80-foot drop or hurl you forward from 0-60 mph {Read More}

YeHaa Bob!

I had the idea to start a series of posts titled “Everything but the Parks” that focuses on, well, everything the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts have to offer outside of their fabulous theme parks. There are a million and one activities in which to partake while on Disney property and so often families become park commandoes and forget to take the time to explore some of Disney’s other magical offerings. It’s also just hard to tear oneself away {Read More}
