No Disneynature Film for 2013?

disneynature-bearsEvery spring since 2009, Disneynature, a division of Walt Disney Studios, has released a nature documentary to celebrate Earth Day.  With films such as ‘Earth’ (2009), ‘Oceans’ (2010), ‘African Cats’ (2011) and ‘Chimpanzee’ (2012), Disneynature combines spectacular footage  and documentary filmmaking with a philanthropic twist by donating a portion of each films’ opening week ticket sales to a relevant charity.

“Our commitment to the production of Disneynature films is to capture nature on its own terms and its own schedule. These films are never rushed so that we can tell never-before-seen stories in our natural world that both astound and charm audiences,” said Alan Bergman, president, The Walt Disney Studios. “Disneynature’s next adventure ‘Bears’ promises to continue this storytelling tradition by introducing audiences to a phenomenal variety of wildlife and offering rare glimpses into the day-to-day lives of these incredible animals.”

mamacubDirected by Keith Scholey (African Cats) and Alastair Fothergill (Earth, African Cats and Chimpanzee), Disneynature’s “Bears” is the story of of two mother bears as they care for their young cubs. Set against the majestic Alaskan backdrop of Katmai National Park’s coastal mountains, the bears’ their story begins as winter comes to an end and the bears emerge from hibernation.  As the season changes from spring to summer, the brown bear families must work together to find food—ultimately feasting at a plentiful salmon run—while staying safe from predators, including an ever-present wolf pack. “Bears” captures the fast-moving action and suspense of life in one of the planet’s last great wildernesses—where mothers definitely know best and their cubs’ survival hinges on family togetherness.disney-nature-bears

And while we do have to wait another year for this incredible film to be in theaters, Disneynature treated us to this featurette just in time for Earth Day!
