Princess Half-3 Reasons to Run!

princesshalfRegistration for Disney’s 2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend begins at 12:00 p.m. EST today!  This year’s race weekend includes yet another way to pack in even more race-punch, the Glass Slipper Challenge, in which participants run the Enchanted 10k on Saturday followed by the Princess Half Marathon on Sunday earning them a bit more race bling with a Glass Slipper Challenge medal.  The weekend is full of fun for the whole family including kids’ races on Friday and Saturday and the Royal Family 5k on Saturday that starts and finishes in Epcot.  Additionally, runners can earn a Coast-to-Coast Race Challenge medal by running the Tinkerbell Half Marathon in Disneyland in January and then crossing the country for the Disney World Princess Half in February.  With all of these fantastic challenges and family events, registering for this race weekend is definitely tough to resist!

PrincessstartSo what are my  top 3 reasons to sign-up for the Princess Half Marathon Weekend?

1.  Bibbidi

Race More! If you’re not Goofy or Dopey enough to take on 39.3 or 48.6 miles over the course of a weekend, but still want to double up on your racing fun, the Glass Slipper Challenge is the perfect way to do so.  At a total of 19.3 miles, the Challenge is a far less daunting way to run more and earn multiple medals during race weekend!

2. Bobbidi

Girlfriends!  I can’t think of a better time to plan a girls-only Disney trip than to the Princess Half Marathon Weekend.  Start to rally some buddies you haven’t seen in far too long–Disney World is a fantastic landing place for groups of friends who are spread out around the country (or even world!).  Or gather a group of local ladies for a getaway weekend that everyone will love!  And with 8 months to train, you and your gal pals have plenty of time to train for a half.  13.1 miles may sound like a lot to run, and it is, but it is a very attainable distance.  Check out Coach Greg Galloway’s training tips here for training plans for beginning through advanced runners.

3. Boo!

Magic! Run Disney events are truly magical.  Where else can you run through Cinderella Castle in a tiara with Mickey Mouse waiting to give you a high five?  The Princess Half Marathon weekend is just another  opportunity to experience the Disney Difference–fabulous cast members, a great race expo, super runners’ swag, favorite characters and spectacular fireworks at the race start are only a few of the bits of magic you will experience throughout race weekend.  This race weekend is a perfect one for running moms (and dads!)  to share their love for the sport with their kids, too!  Turn the event into a family vacation, participate in the Family 5k or the kids’ races and get the whole family involved for a healthy dose of Disney fun!
