Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique 101

bibbidibobbidiYou see them all over Disney World–little princesses sporting a glittery, tiara-adorned up-do and a rosy-pink sash, the telltale accoutrements of a visit to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.  My youngest daughter stared after these children longingly throughout our first two trips to the World.  They’re hard to miss as they skip through the parks, all sparkly and glamorous.  I managed to placate her temporarily with what I called the “Mommidi Bobbidi Boutique,” pulling her hair high onto her head and attaching the tiny tiara purchased in Castle Couture by Cinderella’s Fountain.  But on our DSC_0963most recent trip I decided to surprise her, along with her older sister, with a visit to the Fairy Godmothers in Training themselves at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Cinderella Castle.  After finding their special invitation on the resort room table that morning, I managed to make the event a bit more magical by tipping off the REAL Fairy Godmother while waiting in line to meet her in the Magic Kingdom, and she made a big to-do about the fact that the girls were going to be heading to the Boutique for their transformations.  She was fantastic!

The girls arrived for their appointments about 10 minutes early and were quickly announced by the greeters with, “Princesses Nola and Bianca, your Fairy Godmothers are ready for you!”  Both girls were scheduled to receive Coach Package princess makeovers (see package details below) and the small one brought her Rapunzel gown (actually a nightgown!) from home.  Her Fairy Godmother in Training directed her to a plush dressing room where she could change into her gown prior to her makeover.  Her older sister opted for her regular clothes.

  • TIP: Bringing your daughter’s princess dress from home will save you a bundle of money.  The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Cast Members are wonderfully accommodating and gush appropriately when girls emerge from the dressing room regardless of whether their gown came from home or was purchased at the Boutique.

DSC_0996My girls were brought to stations right beside one another as I had requested, which made it much easier to take pictures of the two of them during their appointments.  The Cast Members at the greeting desk do their very best to seat siblings next to or very near one another for this precise reason.  The girls’ Fairy Godmothers asked them which hairstyles they would like to have–there are three from which to choose–Disney Diva, Fairytale Princess or Pop Princess.  We opted for the traditional Fairytale Princess style.  And then the transformations began.  A tight, high ponytail morphed into a bun which was then pinned into place and shellacked within an inch of their lives with hairspray.  A tiara was added along with a rhinestone studded Mickey-head barrette in the back to catch any stray locks.  Face jewels, a dusting of eye shadow, a light coating of lipgloss and a magical dusting of sparkling pixie dust completed the look, all of which happened while the girls faced away from the mirror.  The big reveal was absolutely priceless and a Photopass photographer was waiting right there ready to snap pictures of my little princesses’ delighted expressions in the mirror as their Fairy Godmothers spun them around exclaiming, “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo!”  Even though the result was a bit pageant-y for my taste, they both looked just so beautiful.  I actually choked up.  My oldest daughter, who had refused to participate, made fun of me.

DSC_1019To round out our magical trip to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, we walked right across the way to Cinderella’s Royal Table to meet the lady herself before being escorted upstairs for a divine lunch in the Castle with the other Disney Princesses.  All in all it was a great success.

DSC_1020Bibbidi Bobbidi Basics:

  • There are two Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique locations at Disney World, one in Cinderella Castle and the other in the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney
  • At both locations it is highly recommended that you make a reservation in advance–walk-in appointments are rarely available
  • Girls should arrive with their hair clean and dry
  • My girls’ princess makeovers took about one hour from their arrival to the time they were finished.  You may want to allow for a bit more time than that, especially if you are making a dining reservation immediately following the appointment
